Gwrth-gitâr describes an approach to the guitar as a sound source. Meaning 'anti-guitar' it is free playing in the sense that anything goes. It does not explicitly reject standard Western tuning, melody or harmony, but it does reject the need for such things. It's a term used by close associate of TQ Ash Cooke, an improvising musician from Wales.
In this scenario gwrth-gitâr has become a mystic pursuit, and the national music of Wales. Well, almost.
